Bracelet Sizing
No guesswork involved! Just give us your SNUG wrist measurement. It’s IMPORTANT to measure your wrist snugly and accurately, typically just under the wrist bone or where you feel it would be most comfortable. We will then add the appropriate length for a comfortable fit based on the bracelet type:
– ¾ inch (0.75″) for all single wrap bracelets
– ½ inch (0.50″) for all watch/stretch band styles
– all double/triple leather wrap lengths will be also be calculated based on your snug wrist
- To determine your ideal size, follow these simple steps:
1. Wrap a soft tape measure around your wrist where you want the bracelet to sit – usually just under the wrist bone.
2. Note down the measurement in inches.
3. Refer to the size selection (in each bracelet listing) to choose the best fit. The total size (including tag) will always be shown for your reference.
For example, for a 6.5 inch snug wrist select: 6.5” wrist (7.25” bracelet)
- When we communicate size it’s important to remember that we will always factor the TAG into the calculations.
• Remember, measure your PRECISE snug wrist size, not what you think the total bracelet size should be.
• If you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up for a more comfortable wear.
Engraving Information
Our bracelets are fully customizable, allowing you to engrave any information you deem important for first responders or medical professionals to know about in an emergency.
This may include:
• Your name
• Medical conditions
• Allergies
• Medications
• Emergency contact information
• Or absolutely anything!
- The number of engraving lines will depend on the style of the bracelet TAG you choose. Most tags can only be engraved on the back side according to the recommended typical format shown on each listing.
- Please keep in mind the more characters we engrave the smaller the font becomes which makes it increasingly more difficult for first responders to read (When you need them the most).
- We also have to adhere to the physical limitations and curvature of the tag and how the message is presented.
For example, for all our popular TAG1 and TAG2 models the typical format would be:
- (20 char): Full Name
2. (25 char): Allergies/Conditions/Medications
3. (27 char): Allergies/Cond/Meds
4. (25 char): Allergies/Cond/Meds (or ICE Contact)
5. (20 char): ICE 555-555-5555 (or ICE First Name)
Engraving Size and Style:
- We will always maximize and ENLARGE the engraved text by increasing the text size to the edges of the medical ID tag to maximize visibility for first responders.
- Engraving is also always CENTERED in every direction to give it a clean and consistent look which is easy to read. So, for example even a 1 line message would always be enlarged and centered and not just engraved small and on the top.
- When it comes to UPPER CASE vs LOWER CASE, traditionally medical IDs were always engraved with full upper case, however we found that lower case (or Title case) letters are more efficient by allowing for more vital information to be engraved. We also found that having only upper case letters limits our customer’s creativity!
Upper case can still be utilized effectively, when it is used to EMPHASIZE certain words – where a contrasting character size may prove beneficial. So the simple answer is we will engrave exactly how you would type the message in the personalization box, unless small enhancements or corrections are needed. We also do full spell checks on all common meds, etc.
- Keep in mind if you have any preference in how to engrave each line, you can mention this in the order notes and we will do our best to engrave the message as per your request.
Impact vs Laser
MedicEngraved® now offers two distinct engraving options for medical ID bracelets: Holographic Diamond Impact and Black Laser Marking
- Understanding the differences, advantages, and limitations of these techniques will help you make an informed decision when selecting your medical ID bracelet.
Holographic Diamond Impact:
Holographic diamond impact engraving is a unique technique that utilizes the power of diamonds to create striking marks on the bracelet’s surface. Your message is permanently etched into the metal using a diamond tipped engraving impact system that creates a dazzling holographic effect with reflected light on the bracelet’s surface.
- Qualities: Aesthetic Appeal: Holographic diamond impact engraving provides a visually striking appearance. The use of diamonds on the engraving tool creates a dazzling, three-dimensional holographic effect, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to the design.
- Premium Quality: The use of diamonds in holographic diamond impact engraving ensures exceptional precision and fine detailing. This technique is ideal for achieving intricate designs, as the diamonds create precise and lasting impressions on the bracelet’s surface.
- Material Compatibility: Holographic diamond impact engraving works incredibly well on metals like stainless steel, sterling silver, and gold.
Black Laser Marking
Laser engraving involves using high-powered lasers that engrave onto the metal surface. Your message is permanently marked using a high-powered laser to create a precise black marking on the surface of the bracelet that is easily legible in all lighting conditions.
- Precision: Laser engraving allows for intricate and detailed markings, making it suitable for displaying not only text but also small symbols, logos, and medical emblems such as the caduceus.
- Durability: Laser engraving creates a permanent mark on the bracelet that is highly resistant to fading, scratching, and other forms of wear and tear. The engraved information remains legible, ensuring its effectiveness over time.
- Versatility: Laser engraving can be performed on a variety of materials, including metals like stainless steel, sterling silver, gold, and titanium, as well as non-metal materials like silicone, wood, and leather.
Metal Finish
Our medical ID products are available in many metal finish options – (plain Stainless Steel, Rose Gold, Yellow Gold, or Black finish). The base metal in our medical bracelets is 316L Surgical Stainless Steel which is extremely durable, hypoallergenic, and can be worn in the pool or shower and will not tarnish.
- The rose gold / yellow gold / black finish is applied through PVD – an industry standard used by well known watch brands like Rolex and Cartier. PVD coatings are more brilliant and resistant to corrosion from sweat and regular wear than regular gold plating. It’s an ideal choice for medical ID jewelry and for people who never take their jewelry off, as it is extremely vibrant and durable for many years. (we have yet to have customers reporting any fading issues to us!)
Allergy Concerns
- For those of you with allergy concerns, the most common question we receive is regarding the Nickel (Ni) content in our 316L Stainless Steel. Although actual metal breakdowns will vary by product, in general the following is a typical composition chart of 316L Stainless Steel:
Element Type (%)
-Carbon 0.03 max.
-Manganese 2.00 max.
-Phosphorus 0.045 max.
-Sulfur 0.03 max.
-Silicon 0.75 max.
-Chromium 16.00-18.00
-Nickel 10.00-14.00
-Molybdenum 2.00-3.00
-Nitrogen 0.10 max.
-Iron Balance
- It is also good to keep in mind that PVD coatings do a really good job at preventing (Ni) release (or any release) so there are many people who have little to no reaction to PVD coated 316L Stainless Steel with (Ni) content. If you decide to give it a try and still develop a reaction to the metal, please let us know through messaging and we can arrange for you to return / exchange your bracelet.
